ABOUT THE DIRECTORS:

Renée Brozic Barger (Artistic Director) is HCC’s Director of Dance, and has been performing, teaching and making dances in the Baltimore/DC Metro Area for over fifteen years. She is a founding director of movement/addiction, a dance-based multi-media performance company. She holds her BA in visual and performing arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and her MFA in dance from George Mason University. Most recently, she has taught, choreographed and performed internationally in the US, Canada, India and the UK. She has been called “aristocratic and elegant” by the Oxford Times, and “brilliantly angular” and “fragile and powerful” by the Oxfringe Review. Recent collaborations of an improvisational nature have been with the Basso Moderno Duo and Timothy Nohe. In addition to performance-related projects, Renée has been increasingly focusing on arts advocacy work within Maryland as a member of Maryland Citizens of the Arts Emerging Arts Advocates, a group that endeavors to educate the next generation of Maryland arts advocates, and to provide advocacy training, professional development, and leadership opportunities to young advocates in the arts area.

Joan Nicholas-Walker (Director) currently teaches in the dance programs at Howard Community College, University of Maryland Baltimore County and Community College of Baltimore County.  After earning her BFA degree in dance from George Mason University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in dance from The Ohio State University, she has consistently worked as a performer, choreographer, dance educator and arts administrator in several states.  Her choreographic work has been commissioned by high school and college dance programs, performed by professional dance companies and selected for dance festivals around the United States and abroad.  She was the Founder/Artistic Director of NickWalk Dance Project, a modern dance company, for four years when she was based in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Nicholas-Walker is honored to have worked with the students, Artistic Director and Arts Collective staff on this production as the Assistant Artistic Director and Rehearsal Assistant for two of the guest artist works.
